Glossary

Every KaraokeClip term in plain language, in alphabetical order. Each links to the page that covers it in full.

The personalized link in the main-site menu that opens the generator. It's valid 24 hours (refresh the site for a new one) and starts a session. Not to be confused with the resume link in your emails. See Two different timers.

Alignment​

The step that places each word on its exact moment in the audio, computed automatically ("CTC alignment") after you provide or validate the lyrics. It's what makes the karaoke follow the voice. See How it works.

Annotation​

One word sitting on the waveform as a small labeled block with a start time and an end time. Editing a karaoke means adjusting annotations. See The waveform editor.

Annotation editor​

The list view below the waveform, one row per annotation (ID, start/end, text), with − / + buttons for hundredth-of-a-second nudges. See The annotation editor.

Annotation ID​

The unique number at the start of an annotation's label (e.g. 4: amour = annotation 4, word amour). Used by the group-editing tools; click the ID label to copy it. See Editing groups of annotations.

Audio tracks (Full / Instrumental / Vocals)​

The three separated waveforms: Full (original soundtrack), Instrumental (music only), Vocals (isolated voice). The mix you set on them is the mix baked into your final video. See The three audio tracks.

CRF (Constant Rate Factor)​

The picture-quality setting (15–30, default 23): the lower the number, the higher the quality and the larger the file. See Constant Rate Factor.

Codec​

The method used to compress the picture — H.264 (universal, default) or H.265 / HEVC (smaller files, recent devices). See Output video codec.

Configuration​

All your editor settings (subtitle styles, colors, fonts, translation, video/audio options, logo) bundled together. Saved automatically on each generation, and downloadable as a JSON file to reuse across projects. Distinct from the annotations file. See Configuration & Presets.

Credit​

The prepaid unit you spend across KaraokeClip (1 credit = €1). Credits never expire and are transferable; a failed action is never charged. See Credits & pricing.

Encoding preset​

The speed-vs-file-size setting (Ultrafast … Medium). It does not change quality (that's the CRF) — a slower preset just makes a smaller file at the same quality. See Encoding preset.

Format (container)​

The "packaging" of the exported file — MP4 (universal, default), MKV (archive), or MOV (Apple). It doesn't affect quality or sync. See Output format.

Full subtitle control (full-length control copy)​

An option that makes a preview also produce a 480p watermarked copy of the whole video, to check end-to-end sync. Included (2 per block of 15 previews) and carried over if unused. See Full subtitle control.

Full video​

Your finished karaoke: original resolution, no watermark. Costs 3 credits (the first; a second is included). See Generating your video.

Handle​

The grab point on each side of an annotation used to drag its start (left) or end (right) on the waveform. Holding Alt while dragging switches to "train" mode. See The waveform editor.

Karaoke effect​

How the text reacts while sung: Letter by letter (real karaoke, the sung color sweeps the line), Word by word (social-media style, the current word pops), or No effect (plain static subtitles). See The karaoke effect.

Karaoke line​

The line being sung right now — the one carrying the effect. Always shown, unlike the optional static lines. See Subtitles.

Lead-in indicator​

A row of symbols that fills up toward the first word before a line resumes after a pause, telling you exactly when to start singing. See The lead-in indicator.

Master volume​

The overall output level. The top master (0–100%) makes the video quieter than the original; the master output video volume (1.00–2.00) pushes into safe amplification without clipping. See Master output video volume.

Neural alignment (AI Neural Alignment)​

An optional 1-credit upgrade that places each translated word on its exact musical moment, using a neural model — worth it for distant language pairs. See AI Neural Alignment.

Playhead​

The moving marker showing the current position in the audio. "Use playhead" buttons capture its exact time into a field. See The waveform editor.

Preset (sound preset)​

A one-click sound recipe in the audio section (Balanced, Karaoke Punch, Vocal Forward…) that sets all eight audio treatments at once. See Sound preset.

Preset (visual preset)​

A ready-made, turnkey visual style applied from the Configuration section — a whole subtitle look in one click. See Apply a predefined preset.

Preview​

A short clip (15–45 s) at reduced quality with a watermark, generated to check your work before the full video. 15 are included. See Preview settings.

Proportional sizing​

Sizes expressed as a percentage of the video height (fonts, margins, spacing), so subtitles keep the same on-screen proportion at any resolution (HD, Full HD, 4K). See Font and size.

Referral​

The affiliate mechanism that earns you free credits when people you refer buy: 50% of their first purchase, then 15% for life, in credits. See Referral.

The link inside each follow-up email that reopens your session at the exact step. It's the only link that restores work in progress — the site menu opens a new session instead. See The follow-up emails.

Session (workspace)​

Your private, 24-hour working space on our servers, holding your whole project. Extendable in 24-hour steps. See Session & access.

Static (context) lines​

Optional lines shown around the karaoke line so the reader can anticipate what's coming (1 to 7 extra). Styled separately, with no "sung" color. See Styles for the static (context) lines.

Synchronized translation​

A second subtitle line, translated into 80+ languages and timed to the music, shown alongside the original. See Add a synchronized translation line.

Tier​

The size/length band that sets a video's base price: Tier 1 (15 min / 1 GB → 5 credits), Tier 2 (30 min / 2 GB → 7), Tier 3 (45 min / 3 GB → 10). See The three tiers.

Fixed reading zone (teleprompter)​

A subtitle mode where the active line stays anchored in one spot and upcoming lyrics scroll down toward it, like a teleprompter — steadier to follow than classic rotation. See The fixed reading zone.

Transcript​

The text of what is sung or said. On the automatic path, it's produced by the AI and you review and correct it before alignment. See Transcript correction.

Waveform​

The visual representation of the audio on which every word (annotation) sits — the heart of the editor, where you fine-tune timing. See The waveform editor.

Watch page (viewing page)​

The shareable page opened by the Watch button in a "video ready" email — badge, player and download button, with no access to your session, so it's safe to share. See Watching, downloading and sharing.

An image (PNG/JPG/GIF) you add on top of the video, placed anywhere, scaled and made transparent, optionally moving around the frame. Affiliate accounts instead carry the imposed KaraokeClip watermark. See Logo / Watermark.

Whisper (automatic transcription)​

The automatic-transcription option: the AI writes down what it hears so you don't need a lyrics file — you then review the result. See Upload your video.
